The White Heat of Technology

Well, the Compulsory Purchase orders seem to have worked well. We've got enough land for the M1 motorway to go right into the centre of Leeds. Except for that pesky end-stump. Have to wait for a couple of years to get those businesses out of the way. Trouble is, it is a railway works, and the railways are already one of ours.

Anyway, this bit is finished.
Of course, there were a few people who refused to move, and while most of them were kicked out of their homes in the name of Progress, we had to give the illusion of humanitarian concern for our democratic constituents, while allowing them to appear to be self-destructively stupid.

But who would have thought that this house would still be occupied forty years on? I mean, what is the matter with these people? They actually want to live next to a Motorway!
After all, it's only bricks and mortar.
Who are they to be so stubborn?
How dare they make us feel bad?
They are vicious!
Yes!
Vicious and selfish!
